Which figure shape are you?

The female body occurs in a range of shapes. The female figure is typically narrower at the waist than at the bust and hips, and usually has one of four basic shapes: hourglass, ruler (rectangle), spoon or cone(triangle). The bust, waist, and hips are called inflection points, and the ratios of their circumferences define these basic shapes. Usually, the bust area will depend on the person's weight and height.

Every individual is born with a specific body structure. Exercises and dieting can make the person look the best in the given shape but will not change the basic structure. Since it's not possible to change the shape of the bone, knowledge of the shape of the body will help to determine the kind of clothes that would enhance the overall appearance of a person.

How to know your body Shape?

Best means to identify the body shape is to stand in front of the mirror and look at the figure and try to think which shape it resembles: hourglass, ruler, spoon or cone shaped.

How to measure your body?
Measuring the size of the body parts such as bust, waist and hips would help to ascertain the body shape better. Before measuring, it necessary to exhale to get accurate measurements. The waist measurements should be taken 2,5cm above the belly button and hips should be measured across the widest section. It's always better to have some help in measuring to get the exact numbers.

Different types of female body shapes

Hourglass Shape:
This is considered as one of the best female body shapes. Where the bust and hips measurements would be almost the same circumference, though the bust can be '2,5cm' larger than the hips. The waist would be much smaller. A perfect hourglass shape is where the difference between the 'waist and the bust' and 'waist and hips' is at least '23cm'.

Ruler(Rectangle) Shape:
If there is hardly any difference in the measurements of waist, bust and hips. The waist is less than '23cm' smaller than the bust.

Spoon or Pear Shape:
If there is a wide difference in measurements between the hips and bust and hardly any between the bust and waist. Hips are '5cm' or more larger than the bust and waist is less than 23,5cm smaller than the bust.

Cone(Triangle) Shape:
Normally where the bust and waist are same but the hips are 'at least 23cm smaller' than the chest. The standard measurement is, bust 9cm or larger than the hips and the waist less than 23cm smaller than the bust.

The Top 5 must haves in a woman's wardrobe

1. Little Black Dress

The little black dress (LBD), is a must have in every woman's wardrobe because it's versatile and looks great on all figure types. It's important you choose the right one for you.

2. Jeans

Every woman should have a pair of jeans that look amazing on her. Dark denim is easier to dress up than lighter washed jeans.

3. Cardigan

Everyone should have at least one cardigan in a neutral colour such as black, chocolate, tan, cream, or white. You can even have all of them. Don't be afraid to play with some bright colours though. As long as they compliment your skin tone.

4. Black Suit

This must have should be made of a lightweight wool or cotton blend so that it's wearable all year. Best is to have a blazer that goes with the skirt and the pants.

5. Black Heels

Every woman should have at least one pair of plain black heels. You can dress them up or down. Can be worn with most items in your wardrobe.

I don't know why it took me this long? To do this blog!

First of all thanks for following this blog. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I will. I'm gonna discuss frequently asked questions by clients. And respond to any queries from this blog. For today I'll chat about my fashion label Sokhana Designs. It's colourful with a wild twist. For those confident and fabulous ladies. But to view more info, you can visit my website www.TheeSox.com.

I often get questions from other aspiring designers. Wanting to know how to crack it, in this sometimes ruthless industry. It's important to study and have a little bit of experience before starting your own label. You can work as an intern or assistant but you should be willing to start at the bottom.

Know and understand your brand. It took me a while to understand my true fashion self. My label only evolved in 2010, only 5 years after starting it. It might take less time for others. Because having money, will help a lot in this regard.

You will find people along the way, who will try to change your style, in order to fit in. Here I'm referring to major fashion shows that you might want to partake in. Don't change who you are as a designer! Coz then, it's  OVA and no-one will ever take you seriously after that. Even if you feel like people don't get you. You must always know that, someone out there, does!

My Mama taught me good manners and they've help me a lot in my adulthood & business. So saying 'Thank you' & 'Please' will take you further in this industry.

I hope I've been of help to some of you but please comment if you have a question. You can also suggest any other topics (within my profession) that we can discuss.
